Injured Moments, Barın Han, 2019

Injured Moments is a work that consists of mugshot photographs of gas capsules that were brutally used in 2013 during Gezi Park demonstrations. Painted in white and sanded layer upon layer, a certain level of smoothness is aimed to be achieved, although in order to reach that level of smoothness, these injured moments end up resembling human movements. All has a specific persona. The smooth whiteness of these gas capsules make the damage that was inflicted on these metal pieces, that were meant to harm others, visible in a sculptural and monumental way. They embody the results of violence, which cannot be read directly from their outer softness. This is the very core intention of the project “ i feared”.

Injured Moments is a body of work from the project "i feared".

“i feared”

in june 2013
during the Gezi Park demonstrations
in Taksim Istanbul
police had used excessive force
brutally exhausting, in a matter of days,
gas capsule stocks
initially estimated for use to last over three years
the project “i feared” is based on the dread i was compelled to learn to embrace

upon collecting 30 kilos of used gas capsules
at a point in time where it was dangerous to gather evidence of these atrocities

let alone exhibit them to a wider audience
