Construction the House Anew is an exhibition-installation presented at Gallery Khas, Kadir Has University, Istanbul, curated by Hasan Bülent Kahraman. The exhibition is composed of building materials recovered from the demolition of various houses, alongside architectural elements dismantled from the artist’s own home and relocated into the gallery space. Through this gesture, the installation engages with the deconstruction and reconstruction of home, household, and space. Spanning approximately 300 square meters, the work reconfigures the gallery into an environment in which space functions simultaneously as subject and material.

“Soylu is an artist who likes to open a new dimension of thought for her viewers. While she approaches the idea of home (constructing and destroying it) she also sees home as a place directly connected to one’s experiences and where memories are obtained. According to her, home carries traces from outside, but it is inevitable to see traces of outside and of our given surroundings reflecting on to our chosen surroundings. ‘A home, whatever that is, changes from person to person, carries embedded observations,’ she added.”
